Description

Superintendent

Our client is looking for a Superintendent who knows how to run the field. Someone who can walk onto a project, understand what needs to happen, build the right team, establish production, anticipate problems, and keep the work moving. If you've already proven you can run major heavy-civil work and you're looking for real ownership, meaningful responsibility, and the opportunity to make an impact, we want to talk to you.

This Is Your Job to Own As Superintendent, you will have direct responsibility for field execution.

  • Foremen, crews, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Daily production and work sequencing
  • Manpower and equipment planning
  • Short-term and long-term field schedules
  • Site logistics and construction operations
  • Safety, quality, and production standards
  • Subcontractor performance and accountability
  • Coordination with Project Managers, inspectors, engineers, and clients
  • Quantities, production tracking, daily reports, and as-builts
  • Field problem-solving and schedule recovery
  • Development of foremen and field personnel

You will be expected to make decisions, solve problems, and keep the project moving. They don't need someone waiting for instructions when the field needs a decision. Projects can involve multiple crews, subcontractors, complex staging, demanding schedules, and significant production requirements. This is work where experienced field leadership matters.

The Ideal Superintendent: They're looking for someone who has already earned their way into the Superintendent role. You should be able to:

  • Run a major heavy-civil project without being micromanaged.
  • Lead multiple crews and foremen effectively.
  • Understand construction means, methods, sequencing, and production.
  • Read plans and specifications and translate them into executable field operations.
  • Recognize problems before they become delays or cost issues.
  • Hold subcontractors and field personnel accountable.
  • Understand how manpower, equipment, materials, and sequencing affect production.
  • Communicate effectively with ownership, Project Managers, engineers, inspectors, clients, and crews.
  • Maintain control of safety, quality, schedule, and production.
  • Develop people and build strong field teams.

Required Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive heavy-civil construction experience, including substantial Superintendent or senior field leadership experience.
  • Proven experience independently running major heavy-civil projects.
  • Experience leading multiple crews and subcontractors.
  • Strong experience in several of the following: earthwork, grading, underground utilities, drainage, asphalt, concrete, roadway construction, bridges, environmental construction, and large-scale site development.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, contracts, and schedules.
  • Experience with field documentation, production tracking, quantities, and daily reporting.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between active project sites.

This role is for a Superintendent who:

  • Takes pride in running productive jobs.
  • Leads from the front.
  • Has high standards for safety and quality.
  • Knows when to push and when to solve problems differently.
  • Doesn't need to be micromanaged.
  • Can command the respect of experienced field crews.
  • Holds people accountable without losing the team.
  • Wants to build something-not simply manage a position.

This is not a fit for candidates whose experience is primarily in:

  • Residential construction
  • Vertical building construction
  • Small-scale commercial construction
  • Light construction or maintenance

A successful Superintendent - Civil Construction should have:

  • Experience managing on-site civil construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and quality control standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in managing project timelines and resolving on-site challenges.

  • Annual salary between $145,000 and $160,000 USD.
