Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide direction and leadership to all first-shift production supervisors.
• Lead approximately 40–50 production team members through coaching, training, development, and performance management.
• Ensure production orders are completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
• Maintain product-quality standards and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
• Monitor department performance and ensure efficient utilization of labor, materials, and equipment.
• Track and report production yields, efficiencies, labor utilization, and other operating metrics to the Plant Manager.
• Identify and implement continuous-improvement opportunities involving materials, processes, lean manufacturing, and Total Quality Management.
• Ensure production processes and finished products comply with GMP requirements and the facility’s HACCP plan.
• Maintain accurate HACCP and production documentation.
• Coordinate with maintenance leadership and outside vendors to minimize downtime and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with plant management, vendors, and USDA representatives.
• Remain current on poultry-processing technologies, equipment, and production systems.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, OSHA, EEO, and other applicable government regulations.
• Communicate production and performance expectations to supervisors and team members.
• Recognize strong performance and address performance or attendance concerns.
• Manage staffing levels, production-line coverage, employee attendance, timekeeping, and time-off approvals.
• Train employees and enforce workplace safety requirements.
• Facilitate team meetings and employee training while ensuring proper documentation is maintained.

Qualifications Needed

• Associate degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of three years of proven production supervisory or management experience.
• Direct poultry-processing or poultry-manufacturing experience is required.
• Experience leading production supervisors and hourly employees in a USDA-regulated poultry facility.
• Strong background in production scheduling, labor utilization, yield improvement, efficiency, quality, and downtime reduction.
• Working knowledge of USDA requirements, HACCP plans, GMPs, OSHA regulations, and food-manufacturing safety standards.
• Experience tracking and reporting production metrics, including yields, efficiencies, labor utilization, and material usage.
• Experience implementing lean manufacturing, Total Quality Management, or other continuous-improvement practices.
• Proven ability to manage approximately 40–50 employees, including staffing, training, development, performance management, attendance, and line coverage.
• Ability and willingness to learn and perform the production jobs within the department.
• Strong reading, writing, mathematical, and analytical skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to spend the entire shift standing or walking.
• Ability to work in a wet, humid, and cold poultry-processing environment with exposure to animal by-products, waste, and feathers.
