Description: Nursing Position for the duration of Summer School.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires the following (or equivalent qualifications):

  • Qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa and holds an unrestricted license
  • Certified in CPR or BLS (or obtain in the first 6 months)BA/BS Degree in related field

Preferred Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • School Nurse Certification
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing preferred

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Coordinates and conducts the health services program of Burlington Community School District.

  • Establishes communication with the state, medical community, AEA, parents, community and school district personnel to facilitate the use of all resources available in implementing a total school health program.

  • Provides coordination with existing systems and services.

  • Uses community resources for referral of students with unmet health needs in school.

  • Collaborates with agencies within and outside of the community to insure continuity of services and care.

  • Participates as a team member at IEP meetings as deemed necessary.

  • Acts as a consultant and resource to the faculty in planning and implementation of the health curriculum.

  • Collaborates with school administrators to establish, review, revise and implement school board policies.

  • Provides direct health services/emergency care to individual students and staff.

  • Assists with hearing various screening as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with all state laws and procedures.

  • Provides in-service programs for school personnel for medication administration, emergency procedures and current health issues as needed.

  • Identifies students and staff members with communicable diseases. Initiates appropriate follow-up to ensure prompt readmission.

  • Orders and maintains adequate supplies to carry out the health program.

  • Maintains health records for all students.

  • Implements school medication policy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL EFFORTS

Continuous speaking, hearing, and visual effort. Certification of good health signed by a licensed health care provider at the beginning of employment and at intervals as required by law. Frequent walking, sitting, standing and reaching. Occasional climbing and kneeling. High degree of concentration requiring continuous and often intense mental and visual attention. Numerous irregularities, complicated and complex tasks are involved. Work involves repetitive and varied tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in the school buildings, student homes, and community. Occasionally exposed to dust, noise and other irritants. Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Work involves irregular hours and days. Some travel required. Exposed to hazards of the road when traveling.
