Summer Intern - Construction Operations

Weaver-Bailey is excited to announce our 2027 summer internship opportunity for students looking to jumpstart a career in the construction industry. Our internship program is perfectly designed for students currently enrolled in a two- or four-year Construction Management, Engineering or related program that are looking for valuable hands-on experience with one of the leading Heavy Civil Construction Company in the state of Arkansas.

Building on the success of past and present graduates and interns, Weaver-Bailey Contractors, Inc. views this position as a key component to its long-term growth strategy.

Each intern will be assigned a mentor, generally a key member of management, to provide supervision and promote a successful internship experience. During this program, interns will be provided immediate challenges, as they work directly in the office and the field with our crews and supervisory staff. Additionally, there are possible cross functional assignments available in other areas such as surveying and GPS modeling, equipment management, and estimating depending on the interest of the individual and business needs. Interns will have the chance to see all aspects of what it takes to operate a successful construction company in the heavy civil industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist crews in the field completing tasks in a safe and timely manner.
• Assist superintendents and project managers with management of current projects.
• Assist with Project estimation and bidding for future projects.
• Assist project scheduler with current project management as well as scheduling for future projects.
• Opportunities to learn other functions in the office or field such as GPS modeling, surveying, and equipment management.
• Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Learning Outcomes:

• Gain valuable hands-on experience in the heavy construction industry, both in the field and office.
• Learn what it takes to complete a construction project from start to finish.
• Learn about different career paths and opportunities available to you in the construction industry.
• Gain experience with industry leading software such as HCSS HeavyJob, HeavyBid, Primavera P6, Trimble, AutoCAD, and much more.
• Actively enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and progressing into your sophomore, junior, or senior year.
• Strong ability to demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
• Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite Programs.
• Ability to effectively communicate and work well in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in the construction industry.
