    Description

    .KE Camps is seeking a qualified and certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI) to support our

    summer camp aquatic program. The WSI is responsible for conducting swim assessments,

    ensuring compliance with New York State Department of Health (NY DOH) regulations, and

    collaborating with camp leadership to appropriately classify campers based on their

    swimming abilities. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced

    in evaluating swim skills in a camp or aquatic setting.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain a current Water Safety Instructor certification (including valid BLS or CPR

    for Professional Rescuers course )through an approved training organization, such

    as the American Red Cross or another nationally recognized certifying body.

    • Conduct camper swim tests and evaluations in accordance with New York State

    Department of Health (NY DOH) regulations and facility requirements.

    • Accurately assess swimmer abilities and assign campers to the appropriate swim

    classification based on NY DOH-established swim proficiency standards.

    • Partner closely with the Camp Director to ensure all campers are properly classified

    prior to participating in aquatic activities.

    • Document swim test results and communicate classifications to camp leadership

    as required.

    • Support the implementation and enforcement of all aquatic safety procedures and

    risk management practices.

    • Provide guidance and recommendations regarding camper swim abilities and any

    necessary restrictions or accommodation.

    • Serve as a professional representative of KE Camps, fostering a safe, positive, and

    inclusive environment for campers and families.

    Required Qualifications

    • Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification from the American Red Cross or

    an equivalent approved certifying organization.

    • Strong knowledge of water safety principles and swim instruction techniques.
    • Experience conducting swim assessments and evaluating swimmer proficiency.
    • Ability to interpret and apply New York State Department of Health aquatic

    regulations.

    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with camp leadership and aquatic staff.

    Availability Requirements

    The selected candidate must be available on the following dates:

    • Tuesday, August 4
    • Tuesday, August 11

    Availability on both dates is required to conduct camper swim testing and classification

    activities.
