Description:

Provides instruction and guidance of core competencies of PE and Health Education to students with special needs, contributing to their educational, social, and psychological development.

Job Summary:

• Meets the professional Common Core of Teaching for the State of Connecticut and the CT Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers.
• Plans content that directly addresses to meet the Common Core State Standards. Clearly communicates learning expectations to students, sets a specific purpose for instruction and helps students to see how the learning is aligned with Common Core Standards.
• Adheres to all policies and the philosophy of IEA including Faculty Handbook.
• Promotes student engagement, independence, and interdependence in learning and facilitates a positive learning community.
• Promotes developmentally appropriate standards of behavior that support a productive learning environment for all students.
• Build relationships with students and provide emotional support and crisis intervention when necessary.
• Develop daily lesson plans for Administration to review and approve. Alternate lesson plans are to be prepared and submitted to the office. Alternate plans should include emergency information, BlPs and accommodations and modifications as well as criteria required for daily plans.
• Documents academic, behavioral, and social/emotional areas of student performance through data collection.
• Plans assessment strategies to document specific evidence of student learning of intended instruction outcomes at critical points in the lesson.
• Complies with the CSDE that all planning, programming, standard evaluations, FBAs and Bl Ps are completed through the directive of the IEP and the Planning and Placement Team. Documents may be drafted but must be approved ty the PPT. Contributes to the development of the IEP.
• Drafts and implements IEP goals and objectives.
• Assesses student learning, providing feedback to students, and adjusting instruction.
• Parent/teacher conferences when necessary.
• Collaborates with colleagues and other co-workers daily to support a productive, creative, and positive work environment.
• Reviews progress with the Director of Education and the Team.
• Co-teaches, consults, and collaborates with Specials Subjects Teachers (Art, Music, PE) and Related Service personnel to provide expertise in understanding student needs, IEPs, BlPs, modifications, and accommodations.
• Maximize instructional time by effectively managing routines and transitions.
• Reports on student progress quarterly (report cards).
• Maintains a gradebook using a schoolwide system and updates weekly with grades.
• Participates in school-wide events.
• Engages in continuous professional learning to impact instruction and student learning.
• Is responsible for teaching and non-teaching duties as assigned by Administration.
• Demonstrates proficiency in technology and continues to develop required skills.

Qualifications:

• CT State Certification in Physical Education (044) and Health (043)
• Receive initial certification within 60 days of hire and re-certification as appropriate for PMT Training.
• Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and Health .
• Strong behavior management skills and experience are required .
• Knowledge or experience working with children with diverse educational, social, and emotional needs is a plus.
• Must have a positive attitude, good communication skills, demonstrate good judgment, and the ability to establish effective rapport with students, families, and all colleagues.
• Ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic, economic, educational, and religious backgrounds is a requisite, as is a commitment to exceeding standards of professional and ethical practices and responsibilities.
