Position Title: Mathematics - 7th Grade (Long Term Substitute)

School of Vacancy: Newtown Middle School

Starting Date: September 24, 2026

Duration: 2-6 Week

Salary Range: Per Diem rate of pay $288-$311 (degree dependent)

Responsibilities:

The teacher will provide mathematics instruction to students as a member of a six person team and will perform other classroom

teaching duty assignments consistent with the requirements of the position.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current Mathematics Connecticut Certification (K-8, 4-8 or 7-12). Interest in working in a high-performing district in a middle school environment and commitment to promoting a positive culture;
  • Ability to work with others in attaining team objectives and accomplishing interdisciplinary objectives for students, including technology integration;
  • Evidence of thorough understanding of unique needs of adolescents and how their characteristics impact curriculum and instruction;
  • Evidence of expertise in working with children in a heterogeneous classroom setting and ability to differentiate instruction;
  • Familiarity of and/or experience in teaching mathematics and

understanding of best practices in mathematics; including Building Thinking Classroom strategies

  • Familiarity and/or experience in utilizing small group instruction to support a wide-range of learners;
  • Effective classroom management skills that promote a positive learning environment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
