ESS has partnered with the Somers School District to place passionate Substitute Teachers in the classroom for Fall 2026! We are currently looking for a dynatic Long-Term Substitute Math Intervention Teacher to support the Mabelle B Avery Middle School community, with an anticipated start date in February 2027 through June 2027.
When a teacher is absent, a qualified substitute is needed to carry out the educational program. As a long substitute teacher, you'll become an integral part of a school's educational team, amplifying your teaching expertise while maximizing the learning experience for students! . As a long-term substitute, you will be responsible to implementing provided lesson plans, grading/reporting, parent communication and classroom management. This position will have support from the Administration and Department Leads.
Responsibilities
- DIRECT INSTRUCTION • Develop a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap • Follow SRBI/MTSS guidelines to appropriately support students • Purchase appropriate supplies to support programs
- USE DATA TO INFORM DECISION MAKING • Read files of new students at the beginning of the year, screen/report possible candidates for intervention • Review UNIVERSAL SCREENING assessments in addition to teacher feedback to identify students for intervention • Conduct DIAGNOSTIC assessments on students needing intervention to identify specific areas of need • Continuously PROGRESS MONITOR students receiving intervention services in order to adjust instructional practice and student groupings • Communicate with classroom teachers about student progress • Create/maintain/revise intervention schedule to meet students' needs
- RECORD KEEPING • Create, monitor, and revise a spreadsheet of intervention students • Send out letters for enrollment/dismissal in intervention • Maintain accurate records of students' progress • Attend parent-teacher conferences • Write progress reports
- STUDENT MEETINGS (e.g., 504, PPT & SST) • Present assessment data (e.g. Key Math, etc.) • Contribute to discussions about student performance with respect to intervention • Serve as a tutor representative if tutor data is pertinent to the meeting • Discuss relevant topics related to intervention, assessment, etc. • A standing agenda item will include updates on intervention students (including SPED identification) • Attend monthly collab meeting of building interventionists • Attend grade level DATA team meetings- Schedule TBD. • Review student progress with tutors • Provide guidance on appropriate interventions to tutors • Review tutor term reports • Provide professional development, as needed to tutors
Qualifications
- Valid Connecticut State Department of Education Certification preferred, minimum bachelors degree with strong mathematical background
- CT/FBI Criminal History Clearance
- Department of Children and Families Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Record Clearance
- Education Employment Verification - Act 16-67
- Certification in Physical Management Training (PMT) is preferred.
