Anticipated Duration: Approximately 2-4 weeks

Position Summary

Hampton Elementary School is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-centered educator to serve as a long-term substitute teacher in our multigrade Grades 5/6 classroom. This opening is anticipated to last approximately two to four weeks.

Located in a small, close-knit preschool through grade six school community, Hampton Elementary School values meaningful relationships, individualized support, and strong partnerships with families. The long-term substitute will follow established lesson plans and classroom routines while providing consistent instruction and support for students in both grade levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and other assigned content areas.
• Follow curriculum materials, lesson plans, schedules, and routines provided by the classroom teacher and school.
• Differentiate instruction and assignments to meet the needs of students across two grade levels.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
• Establish clear expectations and use positive, restorative approaches to classroom management.
• Monitor student understanding and provide feedback and support during instruction.
• Collaborate with paraeducators, special education staff, interventionists, related service providers, and school administration.
• Maintain accurate attendance, student work, and other classroom records.
• Communicate promptly with school administration regarding student needs or concerns.
• Maintain student confidentiality and comply with all district policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Valid Connecticut teaching certification or substitute authorization preferred.
• Experience working with upper elementary or multigrade students preferred.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow established plans while responding flexibly to student needs.
• Commitment to supporting all learners and contributing positively to a small-school community.
• Successful completion of all required background checks.
