JOB DESCRIPTION:
Jones College is seeking applicants for a Substitute Preschool Teacher Pool to provide support for the Center for Child Development on an as-needed basis. Substitute Preschool Teachers are responsible for assisting with and/or leading classroom activities and providing care and supervision for children up to approximately five years of age when regular staff are absent. Responsibilities include:
- Provide and maintain a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment for children, suitable for children's development and implement appropriate, quality, programs, and activities to promote each child's physical, social, cultural, emotional, and intellectual development
- Assist in ensuring a balance between small group, large group, and individual experiences
- Carry out lesson plans in an age-appropriate manner and teach in a manner suitable for the ages of all participating students.
- Help children meet educational milestones through personalized instruction and other supplementary assistance.
- Collaborate with other teachers, instructors, and staff members to create an optimal learning and care environment.
- Work with diverse populations of children and adults from a wide variety of cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds.
- Assist with classroom activities that include fundamental vocabulary, simple shapes, basic colors, letters, and numbers into the curriculum.
- Pick up, prepare, and serve meals.
- Encourage supportive and productive relationships with families, staff, and the community
- Maintain developmental records, attendance records, and other routine forms as assigned
- Develop and implement appropriate behavior guidance practices, which relate to children's development levels
- Manage a busy classroom environment, and provide the structure and discipline required for successful learning for everyone in the classroom.
- Ensure children with special needs are appropriately supported and that staff follow guidance provided by appropriate agencies and specialists.
- Facilitate effective communication between children and staff, staff and parents and staff and administration
- Support and facilitate the involvement of parents in the preschool and the children's learning
- Remain up to date with, and adhere to, all policies covering health and safety, licensing, and emergencies
- Report any suspected cases of abuse and neglect, in line with any relevant legal requirements
- Keep track of children's medical conditions and actively monitor children with allergies
- Complete accident reports where necessary
- Maintain confidentiality in line with regulatory and legal requirements
- Plan and complete bulletin boards and classroom materials as needed
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings and training sessions as requested
- Perform any other tasks related to the children, classroom, students, center, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in Early Childhood or a similar program of study
- Ability to work with young children in a preschool setting
- Familiarity with classroom management skills
- Submit to a criminal background check upon hire
- Ability to secure Tummy Safe Certification
- Ability to secure CPR/First Aid Certification
- Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Must provide an updated immunization record (Form 121) in accordance with state childcare regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or similar program of study
- Tummy Safe Certification
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Prior experience in a preschool classroom or childcare setting
