This is a Part Time, Non Permanent Position
This is an excellent part-time job opportunity for an individual to provide staff support and customer service as a Substitute Librarian to patrons of the City of Huntington Beach libraries within the Community & Library Services Department. The Library Division includes Administration, Facility Rentals & Maintenance, Outreach & Training Services, Programs & Youth Services, Public & Information Services, and Technology & Collection Management. the current opening is within the Public Services Division and may involve work at both the Central Library and branch libraries.
The ideal candidate possesses effective communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to relate to a diverse group of people. The incumbent must have strong customer service skills, be comfortable using library technology, and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
This recruitment may close at any time and will close once the hiring manager determines that a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.
Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: American Library Association accredited master's degree in library and information science.
Experience: Three (3) years directly related experience with demonstrated technical skills.
Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid Class C California drivers license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall berequired to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
The SALARY RANGE is composed of seven steps. Merit step increases are based on satisfactory performance.
PROMOTIONS within the City are based upon the merit system principles emphasizing individual ability and utilizing competitive examinations.
