Prior Lake Savage Area Schools is continually looking for substitute nurses for school health offices.

TITLE: LICENSED HEALTH SUPPORT PERSON

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate; current LPN or RN licensure in State of Minnesota.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Respect for confidentiality of information.
  • Ability and interest in working with students, parents, school staff.
  • Maturity and stability; ability to recognize limitations, to accept and utilize supervision.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

REPORTS TO: Health Services Coordinator

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer first aid and episodic care in accordance with school district policy, as advised by school nurse. RN: As assigned by LSN, provides and reinforces education to students, school staff, parents on acute and chronic health concerns (i.e., epi-pen training, student's self-administered inhaler contacts, food allergy policy, diabetes management, etc).
  • Arrange for transportation of students who become ill or are injured at school.
  • Make appropriate referrals to nurse, chemical awareness counselor and other staff members as needed (i.e. pregnancy, drug use, and acute chronic illness).
  • Administer medication only to students having appropriate forms complete. Keep accurate record of medication administered. RN: Obtain verbal orders, as needed, from licensed prescribers. As assigned by LSN, administer IM, IV, sub-q, rectal medications and perform ordered treatments and procedures as needed (i.e., ostomy cares and feedings, tracheotomy care, catheterization, wound care, etc).
  • As a member of the health team, is responsible for triage of information to appropriate team members. RN: Assist LSN's with providing current resources, health information, and training to health care team.
  • Maintain a current file of emergency referral cards.
  • Be responsible for health services clerical details which include:
  • Maintenance of accurate health records (i.e. initiate new/transfer student's health cards and collect, review, record and file health information - immunizations, sign history.
  • Recording of screenings and physical examinations.
  • Prepare accident reports, confidential health lists, health history updates, parent notification forms, etc.
  • Complete requisitions for health office supplies.
  • Issue first aid supplies to staff.
  • Stock first aid cabinets.
  • Scheduling of appointments.
  • Typing, filing and answer phone calls and other related functions for maintenance of an

organized and effective health office.

  • Assist building administrator with enforcement of immunization regulations.
  • Assist with screenings under the direction of the school nurse:

a. Arrange for volunteers and location of screening

b. Help set up and put away screening equipment

  • Schedule and assist students to get to screening site RN: Perform initial and re-screens of vision and hearing as needed. Assist with referrals and follow-up.
  • Clean health office as necessary (cots daily, change germicide, thermometers, etc).
