    Job Title: Substitute Custodian

    Schools do not function without people who take pride in the work that happens behind the scenes. Nine Mile Falls School District is seeking Substitute Custodians who understand that the condition of a school building affects how students experience their day and how staff are able to do their work.

    Substitute Custodians step in during times of need to keep buildings functioning and secure. This role calls for reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following established expectations. Custodians are trusted with access to school facilities and are expected to approach their work with care and professionalism. The work is physical and practical, but it is also meaningful. Individuals who do this work well are respected as part of the school community and relied upon to help keep schools safe, welcoming, and ready for students.

    Salary: Current Washington State Minimum Wage

    Limited Defined Employees will accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Employees who work 630 hours in a school year will become benefit eligible for the remainder of the school year. Standard benefits include, Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability.     Nature and Scope of Job:

    To perform duties of complete cleaning of assigned facility. To provide a clean, comfortable, safe, and attractive environment for the students, staff, and patrons of the Nine Mile Falls School District. All general custodial and housekeeping related to a school setting.

    This position will require securing the building and grounds as well as arming the security system upon leaving at the end of the shift.

    Position Reports To: Building Administrator / Superintendent

    Classification: Substitute Custodian

    Work Day: Monday - Friday; Hours Vary

    Begin: 2026/27School Year

    Salary: Current Washington State Minimum Wage

    Primary Job Functions

    • Maintain punctual attendance
    • Cleaning and Sanitizing the Building
    • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed; move furniture and equipment; dust areas as needed; wash furniture, walls, and fixtures; wash windows; apply floor products; operate cleaning equipment; do garbage collection and wash trash bins.
    • Clean sidewalks, parking areas, and grounds seasonally as needed.
    • Shovel snow off walks and steps and de-ice hard surface areas seasonally.
    • Willingly follow the directions of the principal/supervisor without supervision while performing your duties up to standard.
    • Responsible for securing the building (locking classrooms/hallways)
    • Setting up for whole school events. (gym use)
    • Supervision of students at the end of the school day as needed/requested.
    • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and the maintenance department.
    • Direct support of large groups to organize and coordinate activities.
    • General Maintenance and Repair.
    • Public Relations.
    • Address building safety concerns.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Required Qualifications (Traits, Education, Experience, Training, physical requirements, etc.):

    • Valid Washington Driver's License.
    • Computer skills such as using email and dedicated programs that support Maintenance and Custodial.
    • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, walk, stoop, bend, climb ladders, and perform various types of labor in eight-hour shifts.
    • Ability to work diligently, follow directives, and meet the expectations of the supervisor/principal without supervision.
    • Ability to make sound judgments.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and use time wisely.
    • Demonstrated skill and experience in collaborating with other employees, developing work schedules, and monitoring multiple work tasks.
    • Satisfactory overall work record, including attendance and demonstrated dependability

    Desired Qualifications

    • High School diploma, transcript, or equivalent.
    • One year of experience working as a custodian/housekeeper.
    • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment where everyone sees the education of children as the mission.
    • Ability to look at the current environment and be willing to suggest areas for improvement.
    • Experience working in plumbing, sink repair, toilet repair, and other plumbing-related repair work.
    • Experience in electrical repair, ballast repair, and lighting.
