ROLE AND PURPOSE: Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for all students in grades PK-12. Consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping children's educational, personal, social, emotional and career development. The Guidance and Counseling Department will handle referrals of qualified candidates to principals requesting a counseling substitute. The campus will handle placement and substitute paperwork.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Master's Degree from accredited college or university

Valid Texas Counselor's Certification

Requirements:

Must be willing to work at any level - elementary, junior high or high school

Experience:

Two years experience managing groups of students and providing instruction, or related work experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

  1. Maintain a comprehensive school counseling program in the four components of guidance curriculum, responsive service, individual planning and system support.

  2. Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational, personal, social or emotional plans.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE

  1. Support all students, staff and parents

  2. Counsel individuals and small groups of students who are in at-risk situations

  3. Consult with teachers, parents, and staff regarding meeting children's developmental needs and regarding specific information about the children for whom they have responsibility

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

  1. Coordinate, conduct or participate in activities which contribute to the social emotional learning of students

  2. Demonstrate leadership ability

  3. Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with other professionals

STUDENT MANAGEMENT

  1. Refer students in at-risk situations and/or their parents to special programs and/or specialists

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Maintain a high level of integrity and service at all times

Apply good public relations skills when working with school personnel and community members

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s) if applicable

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
