    JOB TITLE: SUBSTITUTE CHILD CARE ASSISTANT

    JOB SUMMARY: The Child Care Assistant will work directly with the Child Care Specialist in the daily operation of a licensed child care center at White River High School.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The Child Care Assistant must possess and maintain during the term of employment First Aid and "hands-on" Adult/Infant/Child CPR certifications, and a food handler's permit. Must have a negative one-step Mantoux TB skin test (if previously tested, must be dated within the previous twelve months).

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may oversee, perform, and/or assist with): Child Care Specialist and Family and Consumer Science teacher in formulating operating policies and procedures Assist in formulating the annual child-care budget. Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program. Assist in child-care classes and activities. Administer first aid and handle emergencies as they occur. Gather supplies for lessons and projects. Monitor student behavior and assist with classroom management.     WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job is performed in a noisy, indoor, and outdoor (depending upon the weather), school environment with frequent interruptions. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises from children's activities; be exposed to hot, temperate, and inclement weather; sit, stand, walk, and move for prolonged periods; frequently bend, stoop, carry, climb, crawl, twist, reach, push/pull; perform moderate lifting. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge is required to: understand written procedures, write routine documents, solve practical problems, perform basic keyboarding, use a computer, and the internet. Skills are required to effectively manage groups of under-aged school children in a daycare setting; be organized, dependable and flexible; maintain cooperative, positive, and effective communication with children, staff, parents, and supervisor; prepare and maintain accurate records; accurately collect, store, retrieve and provide data in a timely manner; implement program requirements in a professional manner; adhere to best safety practices; present a professional and positive image of the department and District. Ability is required to: use caring and confident methods to promote appropriate staff and childcare behavior; work independently and in a group setting; provide accurate verbal and written information; follow verbal and written directions and procedures; work with minimal supervision; make independent decisions; maintain confidentiality; maintain regular and punctual attendance.

    WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Program Supervisor or designee, daily supervision of under-age school children, daily interactions with parents. Regular interactions with other staff and community members.
