    Job Description :

    Role: Substitute Bus Monitor

    Reports to: Transportation Director

    FLSA Status: Non-exempt

    Contract Days: As needed

    Retirement: None

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Know and follow all policies and procedures of the Thomaston-Upson County Board of Education, Georgia Department of Education, and Transportation Department guidelines.
    • Assist the bus driver in maintaining appropriate student behavior and ensuring a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
    • Supervise students while boarding and exiting the bus and ensure proper seating arrangements.
    • Monitor student conduct during transport and report any incidents or concerns to the bus driver and appropriate school personnel.
    • Provide assistance to students with special needs, including helping with seating, securing safety restraints, and ensuring safe entry and exit.
    • Respond appropriately in emergency situations, including evacuations, and assist the driver as needed.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all district policies related to student privacy.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, drivers, and school staff in a professional manner.
    • Follow established policies regarding attendance, punctuality, and proper use of leave time (if applicable).
    • Participate in training programs and safety meetings as required.
    • Ensure adherence to all safety procedures at all times.
    • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, including those with special needs.
    • Ability to maintain appropriate student discipline and ensure a safe environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
    • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably available for work as needed.
    • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
    • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25-50 pounds.
    • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.
    • Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in emergency situations.
