    TITLE: Substitute Bus Driver

    REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

    JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the system's curricular and extra-curricular programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a bus driver.
    • Possession of a valid state of West Virginia Commercial Driver's License, Class B (passenger endorsement).
    • Knowledge of the road and street system of the county; ability to effectively control the action of children of different ages riding the school buses; thorough knowledge of safety measures invoked to protect children using school buses; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
    • Successful completion of West Virginia School Bus Operators Program presented by Ohio County Schools Transportation Department.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

    • Drive a school bus on assigned routes, picking up and discharging children at designated locations.
    • Keep to assigned schedule.
    • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
    • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
    • Report undisciplined students to proper authorities using the correct procedures. If necessary, meet with school administrators, parents, and when applicable, students, to resolve situations when could affect the safe operation of the school bus.
    • Keep assigned bus clean and notify the coordinator of vehicle maintenance of needed repairs.
    • Prepare reports to the administrator for transportation as required.
    • Accept curricular and extra-curricular trips when necessary.
    • Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-county school trips.
    • Report all accidents to the administrator for transportation and complete required reports.
    • Participate in regularly scheduled staff development conducted by Ohio County Schools.
    • Submit to federally required pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and/or return-to-duty and follow-up controlled substances and alcohol testing upon request.
    • Perform other duties assigned by the administrator for transportation.
    • Maintaining positive work habits.
    • Performing duties efficiently and productively.
    • Maintaining and/or upgrading skills.
