Duties

Job Title: Substitute Assistive Technology Facilitator (August 12, 2026 - November 3, 2026)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)

  • Collaborate with building based teams on meeting the needs of individual students through the use of assistive technology
  • Develop, implement, and continually assess the effectiveness of Assistive Technology Services.
  • Provides evaluation, modeling and training to staff and parents on the full continuum of communication and technology support.
  • Serves as a diagnostic team member and provides ongoing technical assistance to students, staff and families.

Job Functions:

  • Foster the development of augmentative, language-rich environments through the use of low to high technology systems for the purpose of fostering communication across settings.
  • Interpret, integrate, and synthesize evaluative information to make recommendations for Assistive Technology (AT) interventions and services for the purpose of providing access for students.
  • Maintain accurate records (Students performance data, clerical responsibilities, Medicare billing, etc.) for the purpose of documenting accurate student information, reports, and Medicare reimbursement.
  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team for the purpose of developing and evaluating and making recommendations based on individual student needs.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for students who qualify for AT supports for the purpose of developing appropriate goals, supports, and minutes of services.
  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data for the purpose of providing accurate records and communicating with team members, parents, administration, and district staff.
  • Provide diagnostic services for students referred through a systematic referral process for the purpose of assessing assistive technology needs.
  • Select, adapt, and conduct appropriate and compliant evaluations to assess student needs across all domains for the purpose of making recommendations.
  • Utilize, make recommendations and plans for implementation of technology and assistive technologies to increase student access, independence, communication needs, or other needs.
  • Adapts specialized assistive devices to individual student needs (e.g. adjusting equipment, keyboards, communication devices, configuring software, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing the learning opportunities of special education students.
  • Attends professional development activities as determined by the ELC for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information related to performing functions of their job.
  • Maintains documents, files and records (e.g. site license information, usage logs, inventory, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail.
  • Maintain inventories of supplies and materials (e.g. assistive devices, adaptive software, cameras, VCR, keyboards, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items' availability to meet students'' needs.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to school staff and students for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing devices and collaborating with appropriate building and district staff.
  • Research assistive devices, computer hardware and software applications, vendors, consultants, etc. for the purpose of being knowledgeable on trends and recommending acquisitions.
  • Serves as a resource to students and staff for the purpose of providing appropriate technology options, ensuring tasks are completed and/or providing task analyses processes.
  • Transports a variety of items (e.g. devices, equipment, building supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials in classroom or transporting equipment for repair and/or modification.

Qualifications

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current license from the State of Illinois Special Certificate endorsed for speech and language pathology or LBSII in Technology.
  • Certificate of Assistive Technology preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Ability to travel within the districts and move about ELC and district buildings as necessary.

Salary/Benefits

Provided that this is a temporary Substitute position, there are no benefits being offered. Hourly compensation ranges from $57 per hour to $67 per hour, depending upon experience.
