Description
Under close supervision, must be willing and able to perform the less difficult tasks and assist others in high and low voltage work involved in the construction and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution conductors, structures, substations, underground systems, and related equipment.
Promote reliability and performance of electrical distribution systems
Inspecting, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment and devices, analyzing and determining the presence of any adverse conditions
Documenting and reporting test results and taking appropriate corrective actions
Read blueprints and technical diagrams, test and maintain wiring, controls, and power distribution systems, and inspect and test electrical components such as transformers and circuit breakers
Identify electrical problems using various testing devices and repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools, power tools, aerial lifts, and platforms
Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing devices
Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools, power tools, aerial lifts, and platforms
Ability to use standard and/or metric rule to measure
Perform transmission and distribution switching
Operate Company's vehicles and equipment
Must be able to travel to different T&D locations

Elevated work under 6 ft or 6 ft and higher
Spotting and tag lining
Qualified observer
Bonding ground grid (crimping)

Demolishing horizontally mounted disconnect switches, A-frame dead ends, below grade conduit, below grade ground grid, bus, steel communication poles, control cable, direct imbed concrete poles, HV equipment, oil, filled equipment, static mast structures, steel monopoles, string bus, vertically mounted disconnect switches, wood pole structures and yard steel
DMC crimps for ground grid, HV buss and string buss
Excavating with backhoe, mini-excavators and ride on trenches
Flying hook stick switches
Grounding equipment
Hanging and taking down TPG's (supervised)
Install buss clamps for buss, CAP banks and CCVT's, control house waterfall and equipment lettering, equipment numbers, feeder breakers, HV breakers, HV IPO breakers, LA's, phasing lettering, PT's, SSVT's, steel A-frame dead ends, switches, wave traps and yard steels
Manhole installation
Material inventory management
Operating any fueled equipment (OPP card required)
Pulling fiberoptics and interduct
Spreading yard rock
Welding jumpers
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all policies and standards
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience performing high voltage (4kV and above) substation technician duties
Must be able to assess through Burns and McDonnell assessment program
Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and job site
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand, walk, sit, or reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull
Ability to use repetitive hand motions and the ability to grasp and operate field tools and equipment
Ability to climb on, in or through equipment in confined spaces and elevated work using fall protection harnesses
Ability to work long hours with infrequent days off, night shifts, and in adverse climates
Ability to use respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
Ability to utilize vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Ability to lift, carry and or move up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and vibrations for extended periods of time
Ability to properly wear and/or use Personal Protection Equipment
