Job Title: Substation Controls Designer 2
Position Overview:
The Substation Controls Designer 2 position requires 5-7 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or an associate degree. This role is critical to Southern Company’s Transmission and Distribution Substations design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for substation projects with a focus on safety, quality, scheduling, and cost management.
- Ensure safety is a top priority, using a safety-first mentality in all tasks.
- Deliver high-quality design packages with exceptional productivity.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance for less experienced design personnel.
- Support Substation Field Services, Project Management, and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with associated departments.
- Uphold Southern Company’s design criteria and standardization efforts.
- Contribute to storm restoration efforts as needed.
Travel Requirements:
- Approximately 25% travel is required for this position.
Required Skills and Expertise:
- Basic discipline knowledge and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions based on procedures, with supervisory review as needed.
- Proficiency in Control Design tools and applications, including:
- AutoCAD Electrical
- TEAMS
- Stomps
- SCST Vault
- Maximo
- Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors.
