Job Summary:

-Provide individual, group and family therapy.
-Perform initial screening, intake and assessment, orientation, crisis intervention, counseling, screening, case management, client education, referral, treatment planning, and consultation for clients in the program.
-Treat clients with respect.
-Evaluate psychological, social and physiological signs and symptoms of substance abuse.
-Collect pertinent data from appropriate collateral sources in accordance with confidentiality guidelines.
-Develop a diagnostic evaluation of the client’s substance use disorder and criminogenic risk factors
-Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.
-Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.
-Serve as a role model to clients on a daily basis in such areas as daily living skills and decision making.
-Identify specific therapeutic interventions appropriate for specific problems.
-Monitor client progress.
-Provide information regarding client condition 
-Monitor client withdrawal and provide triage.
-Match clients to appropriate levels of care and facilitate referrals for clients.
-Match clients by demonstrating understanding of the established diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders.
-Complete record keeping in accordance with Health Information Services and other Center requirements.
-Complete initial assessment forms, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries,etc.
-Maintain cooperative relationships with Center staff, clients, community agencies and the public.
-Establish and maintain productive and effective communications with clients, family members and staff.
-Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.
-Deal with team members regarding problems in a constructive manner.
-Benefit from constructive criticism.
-Accept and use direction and supervision.
-Attend trainings, staff meetings, case presentations, conferences, etc.
-Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended.
-Attend mandatory in-service trainings and other trainings required for renewal of licensure.
-Participate in the education of other staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Coordinate a variety of services. 
-Treat consumers with respect. 
-Provide support counseling, problem solving, contracts and limit setting. 
-Establish attainable goals with the consumer. 
-Involve consumers, agencies and others in planning. 
-Assist consumers in deciding which areas they want to address. 
-Assist consumers with basic medical procedures and hygiene needs. 
-Encourage consumers to attain the highest possible levels of independence. 
-Accept the values and lifestyles of consumers. 
-Use a flexible approach with a diverse population. 
-Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the development and implementation of therapeutic services, to include working with substance abusers, as it relates to case management. 
-Present verbally a synopsis of actual cases as required. 
-Conduct Community Outreach Support Groups (COSG) as appropriate. 
-Arrange moves for consumers. 
-Accompany consumers to appointments with agencies, clinics, doctors, etc. 
-Work with consumer to develop employment skills. 
-Initiate vocational/job development activities with consumer. 

Provide individual mental health and/or substance abuse counseling/therapy.
-Treat consumer with respect.
-Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.
-Complete substance abuse assessments on all consumers.
-Identify substance abuse treatment interventions with staff and consumers.
-Maintain confidentiality in accordance with center policy and legal requirements.
-Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input.
-Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DMS IV).
-Apply knowledge of substance abuse and primary methodologies of substance abuse treatment.
-Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others.
-Develop and present, verbally and in writing, a clear clinical formulation based on behavioral data and relevant theory while incorporating psychosocial and family issues.
-Identify specific therapeutic interventions appropriate for specific problems.
-Use psychiatric consultation and intervention when clinically appropriate.
-Use knowledge to decide appropriate levels of care in order to refer to various points in the continuum of care.

Provide specialty substance abuse services to consumers and serve as a resource to staff regarding issues relative to substance abuse treatment.
-Make referrals for inpatient detox or residential treatment.
-Educate staff on and communicate about community resources.

Assemble reference materials on dual diagnosis issues.
-Assess and provide individual and/or group substance abuse counseling.

This includes collecting urine and testing it with tox screening kits.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in social work of Human Services or related field. Two years experience in substance abuse therapy, as well as experience dealing with the dually diagnosed. Must have awareness of the general trends in confronting the problems of substance abuse.
