JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of salon services including shampoos, roller sets, cuts, perms and color treatment. Knowledge of the latest haircuts and new products on the market is essential. Works with Manager of Salon Services to promote individual and collective salon services. Supportive of the Village's mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Shampoos, styles, cuts, colors and perms residents and associates of John Knox Village.
  • May trim facial hair.
  • Open and close Salon.
  • Keep a record of service and authorization.
  • Inventory stock and order supplies as necessary to get maximum quality service with most reasonable cost.
  • May perform manicures and pedicures.
  • Schedules appointments with residents and associates of John Knox Village.
  • Positively interacts and works constructively in a team with co-workers.
  • Assist clients in and out of chair for service without causing potential injury to themselves or clients.
  • Sweeps and cleans work station after residents and associates of John Knox Village.
  • Listens to and has compassion for residents, family members and associates of John Knox Village. Keeps salon clean and in order on a regular basis.
  • Works with Manager of Salon Services to promote salons through regular coupons and incentives visiting with potential customers and promoting other services salons offer (e.g. massage therapy).
  • Provides own scissors.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school education or general education degree (GED) required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Missouri cosmetologist license is required.

Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

  • Basic use of Word, Outlook, etc. preferred.
  • Basic level keyboarding skills required.
  • Basic understanding of computer cashiering system preferred.
  • Previous experience working with seniors and doing sets on hair preferred.
  • 1 year hair cutting/styling experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Ability to write simple sentences, paragraphs and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in indoor settings.
  • Expected to work on Saturdays.
  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

  • The associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • May need to stoop/bend, kneel, crawl, reach. Standing for long periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Must be able to speak and hear.
  • The associate is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
