    Job Summary: Students will help assist in the maintenance of fruit trees and vegetable plants to produce fruits and vegetables for the Bucks County Opportunity Council, CHOP, and to be sold at the farm market on campus, Terrain, and the dining hall. Support academic labs and volunteer events involving the fruit and vegetable fields.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Operate farm equipment & tools used in all aspects of fruit and vegetable production, field management, and facility upkeep.
    • Scout fields to identify pests & issues that could affect quality or yield
    • Perform routine maintenance & upkeep of tractors & farm equipment and assist with field repairs as needed.
    • Complete tasks as specifically assigned
    • Communicate clearly & professionally at work, with other students & staff, and with supervisor
    • Recognize & immediate report broken or malfunctioning equipment
    • Occasionally assist other Ag Departments in emergence or for special projects
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education Employment eligibility:

    • Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

    • Ability to lift bulky or awkward items (usually 20 lbs or more).
    • Acceptable hand/eye/finger/leg/foot coordination needed to operate conventional farm equipment mechanism
    • Valid driver's license
    • Horticulture production is primarily an outdoor operation in all types of weather, but also includes working inside the Ag Machinery shop, the horticulture building basement, and the greenhouses.
    • Proper attire can be influenced by weather, and students must always dress accordingly. Long pants and sturdy work boots are strongly emphasized at all times. Safety glasses, gloves, & ear protection are provided as needed, and students are fully expected to comply with DVU safety rules.
    • Student workers should expect & come prepared for typical farm conditions including but not limited to: noise, dust, heat, cold, sun, darkness, dirt, oily/greasy, damp/wet, dry, and physically demanding situations.
