    Undergraduate Student Assistant

    Department: Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources

    Hours: Up to 10 hours per week

    Position Summary

    The Undergraduate Student Assistant provides support for field laboratory activities associated with AG 337 and AG 381 courses. The position is responsible for preparing field laboratory equipment and materials before scheduled labs and assisting with cleanup, organization, and storage after laboratory activities. This role helps ensure safe, efficient, and effective hands-on learning experiences for students.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Set up field laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials prior to AG 337 and AG 381 lab sessions.
    • Transport and organize tools, equipment, and instructional materials needed for field exercises.
    • Assist faculty with preparing laboratory sites and demonstrations.
    • Tear down and properly store equipment and materials following laboratory activities.
    • Inspect equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and safety.
    • Maintain organization of laboratory storage areas, vehicles, and equipment sheds.
    • Assist with inventory tracking and reporting of damaged or missing equipment.
    • Support routine maintenance of field laboratory equipment as directed.
    • Follow all university, departmental, and safety protocols during laboratory activities.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising faculty member.

    Required Qualifications

    • Current undergraduate student in good academic standing.
    • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
    • Dependable, punctual, and organized.
    • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
    • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Coursework or experience in agriculture, agronomy, animal science, natural resources, or a related field.
    • Familiarity with agricultural field equipment and laboratory procedures.
    • Previous experience working in agricultural operations, laboratories, or field settings.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to organize equipment and materials efficiently.
    • Basic understanding of agricultural field practices and safety procedures.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
    • Ability to perform physical tasks related to field laboratory setup and cleanup.

    Working Conditions

    • Combination of indoor and outdoor work environments.
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment.
    • Exposure to agricultural field conditions, including heat, dust, and uneven terrain.

    Hours: Maximum 10 hours per week, scheduled around course laboratory activities and departmental needs.
