POSITION TITLE: Student Transport Vehicle Operator TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months DATE: 10/4/2023 DATE OF PREVIOUS REV: 09/21/2021 FLSA EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt PAY GRADE: $16.00/hour
JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, a student transport vehicle operator provides safe and efficient transportation of school-aged students to and from school while obeying all traffic laws pertaining to highway safety.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES List most important duties first
Accurately maintain records, as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
Understand and follow the individual health plan (IHP) of all students assigned to the bus.
Ensure that the safety monitor secures all disabled students with seat belts, harnesses, or that wheelchairs are properly secured before the bus begins movement. Union County Public Schools Job Description
Develop and utilize a seat assignment chart for students.
Accurately prepare reports, i.e. student counts, and other documentation as requested by the supervisor.
Establish behavior expectations of students such as, but not limited to, remaining seated, keeping hands/arms/heads inside of the bus, keeping aisles clear in the event of an emergency.
Report any mechanical issues on the TD-28 report daily and/or to the garage.
Maintain the cleanliness of the bus daily.
Effectively produce professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Minimum Qualifications Desirable Qualifications Eighteen (18) years of age Clean Driving Record Valid drivers license for at least six (6) months Possess, or have the ability to obtain before receiving a route, a valid Class C driver's license issued by the NCDMV First Aid/CPR certification High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students when operating a vehicle. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or groups. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work Environment: Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-40 lbs., frequently; and up to 40 lbs. constantly; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices. Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoor exposure to outside weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, motor vehicle accident, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
