Job Summary
Purpose or Role of the Position.
The student lab assistant is responsible for attending all assigned lab sessions to assist the instructor and enrolled students. Stockroom assistant is responsible for completing the assigned tasks each shift; tasks will vary by day.
Responsibilities
Duties of the attending student assistants include ensuring the classroom is prepped for the weekly experiment, assisting enrolled students in laboratory technique, calculations, and overall understanding of learning objectives, and maintaining a safe, clean, stocked laboratory environment. Sanitizing common areas such as balances and fume hoods between group meetings may similarly be expected. Assistants may also aid enrolled students in lab report submission through Chem21Labs or CougarView. Student lab assistants may also have an opportunity to assist the chemical stockroom manager in a number of tasks throughout the week. These tasks include but are not limited to weekly prepping of solutions and materials for Survey of Chemistry and Principles of Chemistry labs, weekly cleaning of instructional labs, maintaining distilled water carboys in instructional labs, and various departmental special projects relating to teaching and regulatory affairs. Assistants will be trained on all practices by the Stockroom Manager, Mrs. Jaimie Gonzalez-Evans (gonzalezevans_jaimie@columbusstate.edu).Preferred Applicants: Current CSU Chemistry Majors that have passed Principles of Chemistry 2 with a C or higher.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must be a current CSU student that has taken and passed the Principles of Chemistry 1 & 2 sequence with a grade of C or higher. Chemistry majors are preferred.

$11/hr.

Conditions of Employment

Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions are grouped into three general levels based on job duties and required skills:
Procedure for Determining Pay Rate:
Federal Work-Study (FWS) pay rates are based on the type of job, responsibilities, and skills required. Pay is set within the universitys student wage guidelines and follows federal and state minimum wage laws.
Rates may vary by position and are determined in coordination with Financial Aid, based on available funding and the students FWS award.
Evaluation Procedures and Schedules
Students will be evaluated at the end of the semester by either the Stockroom Manager or the Instructor of the lab course, depending on the situation. Continued employment depends on the students work performance.
