Help shape the future of student technology at the University of South Carolina. We are seeking an experienced technology leader to lead the technical team responsible for Ellucian Banner and the applications and integrations that support the student experience across USC. As our Student Systems Technical Team Manager, you will lead a talented team of technical professionals, influence the direction of critical enterprise systems, modernize and improve how we deliver technology, and partner with university leaders and functional teams to solve meaningful problems. The Student Systems Technical Team Managerprovides technical and people leadership for the team responsible for the development, configuration, integration, maintenance, and production support of USC's core student systems. The position leads a team of six technical professionals supporting Ellucian Banner, along with related technologies such as DegreeWorks, Banner Document Management, batch processing, integrations, and other applications supporting the student lifecycle.
This is more than a day-to-day application support role. You will help set the technical direction for USC's student systems, establish strong development and production-support practices, improve automation and integration, reduce technical debt, and ensure these mission-critical systems remain reliable and secure. You will work closely with partners in areas such as Admissions, the Registrar, Financial Aid, and other university organizations to translate business needs into sustainable technical solutions.

Lead and supervise technical development staff and system analysts supporting student systems, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Provide clear guidance on development requirements, system integrations, and industry best practices, while ensuring strict adherence to data security, privacy standards, and regulatory compliance. Drive the team in establishing, documenting, and continuously improving processes and procedures throughout the full system development lifecycle, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Promote consistency, efficiency, and quality in development practices through governance, standards, and code management. Coordinate closely with vendors, third-party providers, and campus stakeholders to ensure solutions are effectively delivered, aligned with business needs, and support the evolving requirements of the university community.

Develop project plans, define scope, allocate resources, and manage risks to ensure successful execution. Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring milestones are met and outcomes align with institutional goals. Provide regular status updates, facilitate communication among stakeholders, and ensure smooth project transitions from development through testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.

System Management and Administration
Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of student information systems (e.g., SIS, LMS integrations), ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal system functionality. Manage and coordinate system upgrades, patches, configurations, and enhancements, including planning, testing, and deployment to minimize disruption to users. Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain continuity of services. Ensure system security, data integrity, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., FERPA) through the implementation of access controls, auditing practices, and regular system reviews.

Documentation and Support
Develop and maintain clear documentation and deliver training to support effective use of student systems among staff and faculty. Provide troubleshooting for complex system issues, performing root cause analysis and coordinating timely resolutions with technical teams and vendors. Promote best practices and support user adoption through ongoing guidance and communication. Act as a liaison between IT and functional departments (Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, etc.), ensuring needs are clearly understood and addressed. Follow established change management and ITIL processes to ensure system updates, issue resolution, and support activities are handled in a structured, consistent, and service-oriented manner.
