    Description

    Paradise Valley Community College is seeking a Student Services Analyst as the lead Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official (SCO). In this role, the position determines benefit eligibility, manages enrollment certifications in VA Once and Student Information Systems, and resolves complex records issues while maintaining audit-ready files. The analyst serves as a liaison with internal and external partners regarding regulatory updates, reporting, and student benefit requirements within a small group setting, interpreting guidelines for the campus community. Additionally, the position delivers proactive 1:1 academic advising, onboarding, and retention support using PeopleSoft to guide active duty, veteran, and dependent students toward degree completion, while coordinating office workflow, providing support to part-time and work-study staff, conducting training workshops, and contributing to special projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, high attention to detail, and a proven ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

    Essential Functions

    40% Serves as a lead VA School Certifying Official (SCO) and determines student eligibility for VA educational benefits by reviewing required documentation, collecting necessary data, and entering and maintaining information in VA Once and Student Information Systems. Submits initial and amended enrollment certifications and enrollment changes to the Department of Veterans Affairs in accordance with applicable guidelines. Advises students regarding the impact of withdrawals, grades, satisfactory academic progress, graduation, prior education evaluations, program changes, and other enrollment actions on their VA benefits. Maintains audit-ready records and ensures compliance with applicable VA requirements.

    30% Monitors current and former veteran student files for status changes and accuracy, researches and resolves certification or records issues, and reports required changes to the appropriate Veterans Affairs Regional Office. Interprets and communicates applicable VA legislation, Department of Education, Department of Defense, Arizona Department of Veterans Services/State Approving Agency, MCCCD, and college policies and procedures. Serves as a liaison with internal and external partners regarding regulatory updates, compliance, reporting, and student benefit requirements within a small group setting.

    10% Provides 1:1 academic support, onboarding, retention, and student success support. Advises active duty, veteran, and veteran-dependent students on goal setting, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, testing, registration, academic progress, and satisfactory progress toward completion using PeopleSoft and other technology. Connects students with tutoring, counseling, and other academic and personal resources; provides proactive follow-up; and supports students in selecting options aligned with their goals, interests, and skills.

    10% Coordinates and conducts training, presentations, workshops, and outreach activities for students, faculty, staff, part-time employees, and VA work-study employees. Provides training on day-to-day Veterans Services policies, procedures, and VA enrollment certification processes; coordinates office workflow; and provides work direction to part-time and work-study staff as needed. Supports cross-college training initiatives designed to strengthen integrated student support, retention, and completion services.

    10% May contribute to department related Special Projects Delegation and Assistance with acting as a lead worker.
