JOB DESCRIPTION

Research Assistant

The Research Assistant will support the department/organization in various administrative and research tasks. This position deals directly with research (in or outside a laboratory).

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining, cleaning, and storing lab equipment
  • Preparing solutions and samples for research purposes
  • Assisting with safety paperwork
  • Cleaning the laboratory
  • Receiving packages
  • Processing lab findings and data entry
  • Compiling instrument usage records
  • Interacting with researchers, test subjects, and/or patients
  • Answering phones and department communications
  • Scheduling and conducting interviews
  • Assisting with administrative day-to-day tasks
  • Conducting research and aiding researchers

Qualifications:

  • Active enrollment as a student at Tulane University
  • Prior or active enrollment in a particular class or course of study (potentially)

  • Current Tulane University student in good academic standing

  • Enrollment in a relevant degree program (Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Public Health, or related field), preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, required

  • Prior laboratory coursework or research experience preferred but not required

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal protocols

  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage time effectively in a research setting

  • Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule

  • Perform laboratory experiments including DNA extractions, quality control assessments, ELISA assays, and flow cytometry staining protocols

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures and results in laboratory notebooks and digital formats

  • Assist with data analysis, including processing and interpreting ELISA and flow cytometry data

  • Follow all laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace

  • Communicate regularly with supervising lab members regarding experimental progress and results

  • Participate in lab meetings as required
