Position Summary:

The Student Production Assistant oversees checking out, setting up, tearing down, and returning film equipment for three courses that meet twice a week during the semester. This position requires solid knowledge of film/video equipment, but is not limited to film/video majors. The Student Production Assistant will be supporting film and video classes.

Essential Functions:
-The Student Production Assistant will need to show up to the class 30 minutes prior to the start, stay during the class period, and stay for 30 minutes after the class ends to fulfill responsibilities.
-Be available for 15 hours of work each week that class is in session, excluding final week, and have a habit of begin on time for each session scheduled.

Non-Essential Functions:
-The Student Production Assistant is responsible for working directly with mass media faculty member, Matthew Nyquist, during the listed time periods. However, this position is hired by the chair of the mass media department, Kristen Grimmer, and will report directly to her for the execution of the position description and the hours worked. In addition, mass media faculty member, Sam Finch, who is also the faculty supervisor for the film and video equipment checkout room, and Tracy Horacek, office coordinator for the College of Arts and Sciences and senior administrative assistant for mass media, are considered supervisors for this position.
-The assistant is prohibited from managing the class or assisting in any way with classroom responsibilities such as grading, answering student emails, teaching or training students on the film equipment. This position is not a student tutor.

Required Qualifications:

-Strong organizational and communication skills are a must for meeting the class schedule.
-Ability to follow the established film/video checkout guidelines for use of inventoried equipment and the ability to work with the faculty supervisor and student assistant for the film and video equipment checkout room.
-Ability to troubleshoot any film equipment issues on the spot.
-Ability to check all film equipment for proper checkout and return, examining to ensure all pieces and parts are retrieved and returned. Any issues with equipment should promptly be reported to all faculty supervisors listed above.
-Ability to use the appointment booking software and the university equipment checkout program, essential to scheduling times to retrieve equipment. Training will be provided.
