Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The student pharmacist will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to gain the practical experience that will enable them to meet the needs of patients. The student pharmacist will gain experience in prescription order processing, verbal communication, problem-solving and critical thinking. The successful candidate supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and division/company policy requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under Pharmacist preceptor supervision and per company policies and procedures, assists with preparation and distribution of products and performs general pharmacy duties as follows:

  • Monitors the drug file and prepares prescriptions for packaging and or distribution.

  • Counts and fills patient prescription based on order.

  • Prepares prescription labels to be placed on dispensing containers.

  • Attaches additional information and instructions on the dispensing container, when necessary.

  • Presents final dispensed product(s) to pharmacist preceptor for verification and final check.

  • Organizes finished products for packing/distribution.

  • Helps to ensure that pharmacy area is always clean and orderly.

  • May assist in maintaining adequate levels of inventory by ordering drugs, following established procedures.

  • Prepares and labels stocked drugs.

  • Obtains and enters patient, medical or prescription order data into computer system. Maintains an orderly filing system.

  • Escalates issues to pharmacy preceptor for resolution, as deemed necessary.

  • Reviews and complies with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws, and regulations.

  • Assists with various projects as assigned by Pharmacist preceptor

  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to both sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work on computers for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds
  • No travel is expected for this position

SUPERVISION:

  • None

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree required, currently pursuing advanced degree in pharmacy
  • Licensed as an intern in the state where the student is practicing pharmacy

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • 0 - 1 year's related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This team player should possess the ability to work toward established goals independently, pay close attention to detail and communicate effectively with fellow professionals.
  • Mail order and/or retail experience helpful.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, above average organizational skills are needed to be successful in this position.
  • Proficient with PCs, Microsoft Office Applications, and the ability to quickly learn new programs.
