THE POSITION

Central San is a special district that provides wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal services; recycled water production and distribution; and household hazardous waste collection. This internship is 40-hours, Monday through Friday, and located in Martinez. This temporary position is a six-month commitment, starting in January 2027 through June 2027. The position requires the student have junior or senior standing, or be a recent graduate (graduated within the past 12 months). This assignment provides an opportunity for students to apply their academic preparation to practical work experience in a wastewater utility.

ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT

Communications (1 position)

Central San is seeking a communications intern who can work alongside our creative Communications Division. The ideal candidate will be a talented team player who is detail-oriented and can work both collaboratively and independently on a wide variety of communications related projects and programs. As a part of the Communication team, you will get hands-on experience with customer outreach, marketing, events, community relations, publications, student and public education programs, and digital design/production. The ideal candidate will also possess strong customer services skills, high emotional intelligence, excellent writing skills, and be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse groups internally and externally. Duties will include assisting with various communications and public relations activities, developing information products; coordinating special education projects and events; managing tour schedules; and preparing power point presentations, and marketing materials. This position will also assist individual team members with other administrative duties as necessary. Comprehensive computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office are required. Strong ability in Adobe Creative Cloud is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

The Public Information Intern must be a junior/senior level undergraduate student; graduate student or very recent graduate attending an accredited college in good standing. A major or degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Political Science, Journalism or similar major is required to be considered.
