    The Institute for International Economic Policy serves as a catalyst for high-quality, nonpartisan, multidisciplinary research on policy issues surrounding the global economy. IIEP connects a network of 60+ interdisciplinary faculty and visiting scholars with students, policymakers, private-sector leaders, and 30+ Executive Circle ESIA Alumni. The Institute advances GW's engagement in the global economic arena through research, events, conferences, and external partnerships, including deep ties with the World Bank. IIEP also supports student professional development through paid research assistantships, staff positions, fellowships, and networking opportunities.

    Position Specific Summary

    Events and Operations Assistants II support the daily operations and public-facing work of the Institute. This is a team-based role for students who are organized, reliable, professional, and interested in learning how a research institute operates behind the scenes.

    Assistants work directly with IIEP faculty, leadership, staff, speakers, guests, and students to support the Institute's office, conferences, seminars, and event series. The role includes helping plan, staff, and host a large portfolio of activities, including events on campus, virtual programs, major conferences, and events with external partners such as the World Bank.

    Responsibilities include event setup and staffing, front-desk and office support, catering and logistics, email correspondence, calendar and document management, and providing technical assistance. Assistants should be comfortable working as part of a student team, interacting professionally with faculty and guests, and stepping into a variety of tasks as Institute needs arise. Early morning or evening support is occasionally required for special events.

    Standard Position Description

    The student will assist with the management of the administrative and logistical tasks supporting events. Tasks may include: organizing events and special programs, act as primary point of contact for customers, develop event correspondence & communications. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

    Required Qualifications

    Some applicable educational, technical, or professional experience required, some training will be provided.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred candidates will be highly detail-oriented, organized, and dependable, with strong interpersonal skills and confidence interacting with faculty, speakers, guests, and students. Experience with Excel, events, office work, customer service, leadership, or AI-assisted tools is valuable.
