Nature & Purpose of Position

Student workers will actively participate in a grant-funded 15-week research project in Geometry and Topology, managed by Dr. Giuseppe Martone. The team will approximate numerically the asymmetric Thurston metric on the space of finite-area convex projective structures on a thrice punctured sphere. Three (3) positions are available. Review of candidates will start immediately with Zoom interviews starting on November 20.

Responsibilities:

• Research: Conduct research on convex real projective geometric structures on surfaces.
• Team meetings: Actively participate in in-person weekly team meetings. Meetings will be scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members to ensure the project's success.
• Project Management: Maintain organized records of research and data. Meet project deadlines and milestones as outlined by the project team.
• Final report: Significantly and extensively contribute to the writing of the final project report.

Other Requirements for the Position

Qualifications:

• Strong interest in Mathematics.
• Familiarity with Linear Algebra (e.g. matrix multiplication, eigenvalues).
• Familiarity with computational software (e.g. Mathematica, Python).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
