JOB TITLE: Climbing Wall Student Assistant

HOURS: Climbing Gym is open Mon-Fri 2-8pm. Hours vary depending on availability and roles within the program.

JOB FUNCTION: Assist with the day to day operation of the Outdoor Recreation Program which includes the following:

Climbing Center

• Welcome participants into the facility and check them in and ensure waiver is on file or signed.
• Oversee the safe usage of the climbing center.
• Ensure that all participants are qualified to use the climbing wall.
• Correct any improper use of the climbing center or the equipment.
• Clean up around the climbing center area as needed, as well as keep up with general maintenance of the climbing wall.
• Provide care and supervision in the event of an emergency.

Gear Rentals

• Make rental reservations for equipment by completing proper paperwork.
• Check equipment in and out ensuring all paperwork is completed properly.
• Communicate proper use and set up of equipment.
• Fix minor damage to equipment and/or report problems to assistant director.
• Apply late and damage fees when appropriate. Communicate to director if there is a problem.

Routsetting-Not required

• Setting bouldering and/or top rope routes
• Cleaning hold and organizing holds

Training

• Attend new hire training
• Complete all training required by human resources
• Attend mandatory staff meetings

Qualifications

• Comfortable at a height of up to 35'
• Physically able to belay, work outside, and lift heavy equipment
• CPR and First Aid Certified (within first six months)
• Staff should be competent to use hand tools and general cleaning equipment
