Job Title: Aquatics Lifeguard Instructor and Training Specialist

Hours: Varies

Job Function: Assist the Aquatics program which includes the following:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Lifeguard Training Courses in accordance with American Red Cross Standards.
  • Assist with organizing, scheduling, and promoting aquatic and safety training courses for the department and outside entities
  • Responsible for upkeep all training class paperwork and records
  • Assist with Department wide skills
  • Conduct reviews and audits of the skills of current Aquatic staff
  • Maintain all staff certification and notify staff of expirations
  • Schedule and organize aquatic in-services
  • Assist with hiring, training, evaluation of lifeguards

Additional Duties

  • Bump the pool when the effluent/influent pressure indicates its necessary
  • Add chemicals to the pool to maintain proper chemistry.
  • Ensure opening and closing task lists are complete and the facility is ready to open/close.
  • Handle customer service issues

Supervisory Duties

  • Create the monthly schedules to ensure full coverage of all open shifts
  • Schedule group rentals at each facility.
  • Create and implement programs to engage students in the aquatic facility.
  • Create marketing opportunities to get more students involved.

Training

  • Complete all training required by human resources.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings.
  • Attend SHSU Campus Recreation Fall/Spring All staff training

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and training lifeguards
