JOB DESCRIPTION

Classroom Experience Assistant (Student Employee)

Hourly Pay Rate: $12.00 - $16.00

Entry level IT support, working with library print stations and classroom technology. While technology is involved, this is a customer facing, customer service job that involves working with students and faculty to resolve technical issues. There are 4 aspects to this job:

  • Monitor the public print stations in the Howard Tilton Memorial Library- refill paper, toner, and clear jams. Use Pharos printing software to issue reprints to customers with printing errors.
  • Answer the classroom support telephone hotline and respond to hotline calls by going to the classrooms (in the library basement) to triage or fix the simplest computer problems. More complicated issues will be fixed by tier 2 support, which is the Tulane AV team.
  • Provide Classroom Technology demos to professors as needed via appointment.
  • Other tasks as needed for special events such as hanging up posters, sorting things, unloading office supply orders, bringing equipment back and forth to the LBC, etc.

Candidates should have the following qualifications: punctual, patient, calm demeanor in tense situations, good communicator- written and verbal. Detail oriented to document all help requests or incidents. Must be comfortable learning new technology including Microsoft Teams and checking Teams regularly. Flexible hours- must be available to work at least 10 hours a week, morning and weekend help is always needed. We are open Monday - Friday 7am to 7pm, Saturday - Sunday 10am - 5pm. We are open year-round as long as the Howard Tilton Memorial Library building is open. We are closed for staff holidays. (Working over breaks is optional.)

This role is designed to assist faculty with the nuances of the classroom in the first few weeks of the semester. Therefore, it is considered a short-term position. The Classroom Experience Assistant can be stationed in the hallways of buildings where classes are offered and is aligned with the building/room assignments.

Some members of the team can opt to join our subset of student telephone operators. This aspect of the job entails answering the main Tulane telephone line and directing calls to their final destination. This requires general knowledge of campus departments and is best suited to students who have been on campus for at least one year.

Training is provided for all aspects of work in this position.
