    Position Overview

    The UH Hilo Division of Student Affairs serves as the primary resource for student support, engagement, and development outside of the classroom. This division provides essential programs and services that foster student success, personal growth, and a vibrant campus life. Student Affairs is responsible for critical functions such as advising and counseling services, housing and residential life, student activities and organizations, wellness and health services, career development, and promoting an inclusive and supportive campus environment.

    Kipapa I Ke Ala Kai: Center for Career Advancement serves in the preparation of students for professional and personal success. The main focus is on career readiness and development to assist students in connecting their academic journey to career success.

    The Career Advancement Coordinator serves as a liaison between UH and Community Partners in developing career pathways through opportunities and special projects. Guided by research, best practices, and a commitment to continuous improvement, this position fosters a holistic collegiate experience that supports student resilience, safety, and success from enrollment through graduation.

    Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions):

    • *Demonstrates a commitment to establishing and expanding partnerships with university faculty, staff, community members, and organizations.
    • *Oversees program relations and collaborates with identified campus partners and other stakeholders on internship/apprenticeship opportunities and special projects.
    • *Serves as a liaison between UH Hilo and community partners to develop career pathways through on-campus engagement.
    • *Supports and guides career exploration and counseling for individual students (and alumni as needed).
    • *Develops, coordinates, and successfully executes UH Hilo campus career and internship events through the Center for Career Advancement.
    • *Supports the Director of Career Services with daily operations and the oversight of student staff.
    • *Provides support for employer inquiries regarding internships and job opportunities for UH Hilo students and alumni.
    • *Manages the marketing and social media presence, assists with content creation, and ensures the promotion of career services resources.
    • *Collaborates with Student Employment staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university rules and regulations governing the administration of Federal Work-Study and general-funded student employment, which may include other duties as needed to achieve successful outcomes for the program.
    • Organizes and executes placements for off-campus internships and experiential learning opportunities for students in congruence with UH Hilo policies.
    • Assists in the maintenance, review, and updates required to support databases for external internships and job postings for use by current students and UH Hilo alumni.
    • Manages department webpages in UH Hilos CMS to university standards.
    • Participates in data collection and the review process for program development, best practices, assessments, and reporting.
    • Receives training and professional development related to duties and responsibilities as defined by the needs of the department.
    • Serves as the campus Bridge to Hope Coordinator per University System directive.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education and Professional Work Experience:

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Psychology or related field and 2 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for campus event coordination, marketing and career advising; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of experiential learning, university student support programs, demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
    • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with Student Employment, FERPA, Title IX,
    • Title VII, and UH System AP9.880.
    • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of career
    • development/internships and university student employment.
    • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and maintain department website CSM, and a variety of social media platforms.

    Supplemental Minimum Qualifications

    • At least two years of case management experience with effective client outcomes.
    • Ability to collect, analyze, and communicate results of data as it relates to outcomes.
    • Functional ability to administer, analyze, and interpret data for career assessments.

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Possession of a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or any career development-related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience at a post-secondary educational institution.
    • Experience with UH Content Management Systems or equivalent for website content.
    • Experience with Career Management Systems in a CSM Platform
    • Experience with FOCUS2 career assessment software.
    • Demonstrated experience with video editing software or other graphics programming.
    • Previous or current experience with the Bridge to Hope Program.
