    Job Title Student Activities Student Assistant Position Summary

    The Student Activities Student Assistant supports the mission of the Office of Student Activities by assisting with the planning, promotion, implementation, and assessment of programs, events, and initiatives that enhance student engagement and campus life. Student Assistants serve as ambassadors for the Division of Student Affairs and contribute to creating a welcoming and vibrant campus community.

    This position provides hands-on professional experience designed to prepare students for future careers through the development of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through supervision, mentorship, training, and experiential learning opportunities, Student Assistants gain transferable skills that support academic, personal, and professional success.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Student Engagement and Event Support

    • Assist with the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of departmental programs and events, including Stampede Week, Homecoming, Karaoke Nights, Ram Jam, and other campus traditions.
    • Support event logistics including ordering supplies, reserving space, preparing materials, event setup, event management, and breakdown.
    • Encourage student participation and engagement in campus programs, services, organizations, and leadership opportunities.
    • Serve as a positive representative of the Office of Student Activities and Texas Wesleyan University.
    • Welcome and assist students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community guests participating in campus events.

    Student Organization Support

    • Assist with the planning, maintenance, and administration of RamSpace and related student organization management systems.
    • Support student organizations by maintaining resources, materials, and organizational records.
    • Provide guidance and referrals to student leaders regarding university policies, event planning procedures, and available resources.
    • Be available for consultations with student leaders and organization officers regarding involvement opportunities and organizational success.

    Marketing and Communication

    • Promote Student Activities programs and services through social media platforms, digital communication, print materials, tabling, and other outreach efforts.
    • Create engaging content that increases student awareness of campus programs and opportunities.
    • Communicate professionally and effectively with diverse audiences through verbal, written, and electronic communication methods.
    • Assist with gathering information, documenting programs, and maintaining departmental communications.

    Administrative and Operational Support

    • Attend mandatory trainings, staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with supervisors.
    • Maintain accurate records, inventories, and program documentation.
    • Utilize Microsoft Office, RamSpace, social media platforms, and other university technologies to support departmental operations.
    • Complete assigned projects independently and collaboratively while meeting established timelines and expectations.
    • Support university policies, departmental procedures, and student conduct expectations.

    Leadership and Professional Development

    • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, dependability, and ethical decision-making in all work-related responsibilities.
    • Participate actively in professional development opportunities, reflection activities, and skill-building experiences.
    • Seek and apply feedback from supervisors and peers to improve performance and enhance personal and professional growth.
    • Collaborate with fellow Student Assistants and campus partners to achieve departmental goals and improve student experiences.
    • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to respond to challenges and contribute innovative ideas for program improvement.
    • Foster an environment of belonging, respect, and inclusion for all members of the Texas Wesleyan community.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental goals and student success initiatives.

    Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

    • Must be a currently enrolled Texas Wesleyan University student in good academic standing.
    • Must submit a current semester class schedule as part of the application process.
    • Work availability will be considered as part of the selection process to ensure adequate office coverage, event support, and departmental operations.
    • Students are responsible for providing updated class schedules if course enrollment changes after hire.
    • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week, depending on departmental needs and supervisor approval.
    • Must maintain availability for scheduled meetings, trainings, programs, and occasional evening or weekend events.

    Experience

    Experience in student leadership, event planning, student organizations, customer service, marketing, or campus involvement is preferred but not required.

    • Ability to complete physical tasks associated with event setup, breakdown, and office operations.
