Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Structural Supervisor to support marine ship repair and fabrication operations in the Hampton Roads area.
This position is responsible for leading structural repair and fabrication activities aboard marine vessels, supervising skilled trades personnel, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, quality standards, and schedule expectations.
The ideal candidate will have extensive ship repair experience, strong leadership skills, and a hands-on understanding of structural welding, fitting, fabrication, and NAVSEA requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily structural repair and fabrication activities aboard marine vessels and related components.
- Lead, coordinate, and direct welders, shipfitters, and labor crews to meet production goals and project schedules.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, work packages, and specifications.
- Ensure structural work meets applicable quality standards, contract requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Enforce all safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture across assigned crews.
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Quality Assurance, Production, and other departments.
- Monitor project progress and resolve production issues in real time.
- Adjust manpower and work assignments as project needs change.
- Support inspections, testing, closeout, and turnover activities.
- Prepare and submit Condition Found Reports (CFRs) to the Trade Manager for review or directly to the Project Manager as required.
- Maintain proper documentation associated with structural work and project requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of ship repair and/or marine fabrication experience.
- Previous supervisory, foreman, or lead experience required.
- Strong knowledge of structural welding, shipfitting, fabrication, and repair processes.
- Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and work packages.
- Experience working in shipyards and aboard Naval or commercial vessels strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of QA/QC procedures and shipyard safety requirements.
- Familiarity with OSHA and NAVSEA requirements.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Knowledge of the Work Authorization Form (WAF) process and Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM).
- Ability to obtain and maintain access to shipyards, Naval installations, and other secured facilities, including DBIDS access.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, as well as PDF software.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on production and project requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and request assistance for heavier loads.
- Ability to climb stairs, vertical ladders, staging, and other shipboard access points.
- Ability to work in confined, enclosed, and open spaces, including tanks, voids, and compartments.
- Ability to work at heights and on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to wear all required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
- Must possess adequate close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to work in environments that may include loud noise, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials, smoke, and extreme temperatures.
Schedule:
- Must be flexible to work different schedule based on production and job requirements
- Night shift: Mon-Thurs 3:30pm-2:00am, Fri & Sat – 3:30pm-11pm.
