Structural Steel Plant Manager

Position Overview
Qualdoc is seeking a hands-on Plant Manager to lead structural steel production across two nearby facilities operating on two shifts. This role is responsible for coordinating production, safety, quality, maintenance, staffing, and shipping activities while leading supervisors and supporting continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate brings a strong structural steel fabrication background, experience with AISC and AWS standards, knowledge of steel coating requirements, and the ability to lead multiple production teams and complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily production activities across two facilities and two shifts.
- Lead approximately 65 employees, with planned growth to approximately 90.
- Manage 5–6 department and shop supervisors.
- Maintain a safe workplace and ensure proper facility and equipment maintenance.
- Monitor production efficiency, quality, scheduling, and shipping deadlines.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, retention, training, and development.
- Handle disciplinary matters and help develop future leadership talent.
- Identify opportunities to improve production processes and overall shop performance.
- Coordinate work across Receiving/Inventory, CNC Processing, Fabrication/Welding, Paint, and Shipping.
- Manage multiple fabrication projects and anticipate potential production or quality issues.
- Work closely with senior operations leadership on plant performance and other assigned initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or production.
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1; CWI certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience working in an AISC-certified shop or environment.
- Experience with large, heavy, and complex structural steel fabrication projects.
- Knowledge of SSPC and ASTM coating requirements.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, workflows, and shop operations.
- Experience overseeing multiple production departments.
- Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify potential issues and improvement opportunities before they affect production.
- U.S. work eligibility required.
