Description

Structural Steel Combo Welder–Fitter

Location: New Iberia, LA | Employment: Full-Time | Compensation: $25–$29 per hour (weekly pay)

A day in this role

You start your shift with a blueprint review, confirming dimensions and tolerances before fitting up structural members. You’ll lay down clean 3G/4G welds using Flux-Cored and Short Arc/MIG processes, verify alignment, and keep production flowing. By mid-day, you’re alternating between fit-up and multi-pass welding on structural steel, checking with a tape measure, square, and gauges to ensure accuracy. Before close, you tidy your station, stage the next set of parts, and note any tooling needs.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven 3G and 4G welding experience on structural steel
  • Hands-on skill with Flux-Cored (FCAW) and Short Arc/MIG processes
  • Solid structural fitting background; able to hold tight tolerances
  • Blueprint literacy—read and interpret drawings without supervision
  • Bring your own welding hood and basic hand tools

  • Measurement & setup: accurate tape-measure use; efficient welding setups for production
  • Core processes & positions: MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), Flux-Core; 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G positions
  • Materials & work types: structural steel, aluminum, sheet metal; vehicle and fleet welding
  • Roles & specialties: combo welding and fitting, structural welding and fitting, pipe welding and pipefitting, fabrication, grinder/fabrication helper support, TIG welding, MIG welding, Flux-Core (FCAW) welding, stick welding, vessel fitting, short-arc work, general welding
  • Blueprint reading and practical fabrication skills that keep projects on spec
