Job Summary

We are seeking a Structural Staff Engineering Technician - Overhead Transmission to support engineering and design teams in developing high-quality technical deliverables for overhead transmission projects. This role is responsible for creating and modifying transmission models, drawings, and design details using PLS-CADD and other industry-standard design tools while applying engineering principles to deliver accurate and efficient project solutions.


Job Description

  • Functions in a project engineering technician capacity
  • Under general direction, supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables.
  • Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions
  • Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
  • Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs
  • Apply knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control procedures, departmental guides, and applicable codes and standards
  • Review project requirements and determine the appropriate format and content for project deliverables
  • Apply quality standards to deliverables while ensuring accuracy and supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
  • Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable project codes and standards
  • Apply engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts and deliverables
  • Exercise judgment in interpreting design inputs and making decisions related to project deliverables
  • Perform complex technical assignments within an area of expertise and provide technical guidance to other engineering professionals
  • Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and maintain project records
  • Review technical deliverables prepared by other team members
  • Assist with defining work assignments and maintaining project schedules
  • Program control systems or participate in plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise, when required
  • Coordinate with other engineering and design disciplines to exchange information and support project development
  • Support field activities while maintaining an understanding of internal and external project requirements
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, engineering methods, and industry best practices, and share knowledge with project teams

 

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of related engineering technician experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience
  • Experience with overhead transmission design
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles, drafting standards, and applicable codes
  • Experience with BIM, 3D modeling, and engineering design software
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Diploma or Certificate required
  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field preferred
