What a Day Looks Like
You arrive to a clean bay, check your PPE, review hot-work clearances, and begin setting up for the first weldment of the shift. Throughout the day you’ll move between MIG, TIG, and stick processes to build and repair structural components used on geotechnical drilling equipment. Each assembly is brought to life by following fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and the applicable welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Your Core Work
- Lay down structural welds on heavy steel assemblies to the blueprint and WPS requirements.
- Select and install the right consumables and filler metals; dial in machine settings for the job.
- Visually inspect and measure welds, correct defects, and complete touch-up or rework when required.
- Grind, blend, and finish weld beads to the specified profile and appearance.
- Interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols with accuracy to ensure fit-up and final quality.
- Keep welding equipment, leads, torches, and fixtures in reliable, safe operating condition.
- Follow all safety protocols, including hot work procedures and full PPE requirements.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong proficiency in MIG; TIG experience preferred.
- Ability to read weld drawings and symbols confidently.
Preferred Extras
- AWS D1.1 certification.
- Background welding chrome-moly or other high-strength steels.
- TIG certification.
Physical & Work Environment
Expect to be on your feet 8–10 hours per day with exposure to weld fumes, UV light, heat, and sparks. Full PPE is required at all times, including welding helmet, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing.
