About This Position:

Creighton Manning, a GAI Company, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Structures Design Manager who is looking to take on new challenges and be recognized for their contributions to growing the firm. The ideal candidate will have established relationships in the industry, an entrepreneurial spirit to win new projects, and the ability to provide technical leadership and direction for structural design services, along with the skills to successfully support project delivery.

Creighton Manning is a leading transportation engineering firm with an established office in Syracuse, New York. The firm works extensively with NYSDOT and local counties and municipalities on federally funded projects. We are looking for an individual to lead the strategic growth and technical direction of our public‑sector structures practice in Western New York and support the firm’s overall growth strategy.

This position requires an action-driven professional who can identify, develop, and maintain strategic business relationships with potential clients and teaming partners. This position will work closely with the Office Leader in Syracuse and coordinate with Structures Group Leaders and technical leadership based in Albany, New York.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience delivering transportation infrastructure design projects in New York State including structures design, construction, reconstruction and/or rehabilitation.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong communication, presentation, and client relation skills – both verbal and written
  • An established public‑sector network in Western New York, with the ability to leverage relationships to support long‑term market growth.

 

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Identify new project opportunities utilizing network connections and market research
  • Proactively meet with current and prospective clients to maintain relationships and identify future needs.
  • Collaborate to develop teaming and operational strategies in response to market or client needs, including identifying and negotiating with teaming partners
  • Lead and support pursuit efforts, including preparation of technical proposals, participation in interviews, and securing contracts.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for project delivery, including staffing and resource planning; selectively serve as Project Manager on strategic or complex assignments.
  • Support the growth and development of the Structures design team, including mentoring, technical guidance, and participation in hiring efforts.
  • Attend conferences and networking events and develop new leads

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as a primary client interface for select projects and market initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of staffing, scheduling, and delivery across assigned structures projects, in coordination with project managers.
  • Act as a concurrent project manager of many basic projects, a few intermediate projects, and one or two complex projects.
  • Review project documents for technical quality, consistency, and QA/QC.
  • Develop or promote improved processes, techniques, or design approaches.
  • Assist senior management and staff as technical specialist and advisor.
  • Represent the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to project engineers and staff engineers.
  • Support project financial performance through oversight of schedules, scopes, and budgets.
  • Lead or support public meetings in complex projects.
  • Provide coordination for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Assist in developing intermediate and complex proposals and attend proposal interviews.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or an approved equivalent.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure strongly desired. Engineering experience may be substituted for PE licensure.
  • Active member of a professional practice organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in structural design, project delivery, and/or market development.

 

Salary Range:

$70.00 - $90.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
