Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is looking for an experienced Structural Designer SR 2 to fill a two-year contract assignment in the Birmingham, AL area. This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.

Job Title: Structural Designer SR 2 - SDSR2

Work Location: Birmingham, AL 

Required PPE: Hard Hat, Safety Boots & Glasses, Safety Vest

Requirements:

Experience:

• 20+ years heavy industrial/power plant experience.

Job responsibilities:

• Producing 3D models and design drawings for structural steel, reinforced concrete, and/or ductwork.
• Preparing layouts and conceptual designs
• Reviewing vendor shop fabrication drawings
• Preparing material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates
• Coordinating work with other disciplines, clients, and contractors
• Performing site walk-downs for field verification and to address constructability

Skillsets and Expertise:

• Proficient using AutoCAD
• 3D modeling is strongly preferred
• Experience with Microsoft/Bentley and/or Advance Steel is preferred.
• Steel and concrete detailing background is strongly preferred.
• Good Technical writing skills
• Must be able to produce clear, concise drawing notes
• Able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
• The ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
