Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Designer to support complex power generation and heavy industrial projects. This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy challenging design work, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to large-scale infrastructure and industrial facility projects.

You"ll be involved in the design and development of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and industrial support systems while working closely with engineers, contractors, vendors, and plant personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed structural design drawings and 3D models for industrial and power-related facilities
  • Develop conceptual layouts, design packages, and construction documents
  • Design and detail structural steel, reinforced concrete, platforms, equipment supports, ductwork supports, and miscellaneous structures
  • Review vendor fabrication and shop drawings for compliance and constructability
  • Prepare material takeoffs and support project cost estimating efforts
  • Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and process engineering disciplines
  • Interface with clients, contractors, vendors, and plant personnel
  • Perform site walkdowns and field verification activities at operating facilities
  • Support constructability reviews and resolve field design issues
  • Maintain quality standards, drafting standards, and project schedules

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of structural design experience in industrial, utility, manufacturing, energy, chemical, refinery, or power generation environments
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Experience preparing structural steel and reinforced concrete design drawings
  • Experience reviewing fabrication and shop drawings
  • Strong understanding of industrial construction and field execution practices
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate, and detailed construction documents
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary project teams

  • 3D modeling experience
  • Bentley software experience
  • MicroStation experience
  • Autodesk Advanced Steel experience
  • Revit Structures experience
  • Plant 3D or SmartPlant experience
  • Brownfield facility modification experience
  • Power plant or utility project experience
  • Structural steel detailing background
  • Concrete detailing experience
  • Experience supporting cost estimates and quantity takeoffs

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience, technical expertise, and project background.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
