    SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

    • Determine structural certification path for installations, units, and components.
    • Carry out preliminary and detailed stress analysis of aircraft interior units and components using FEA (FEMAP/NASTRAN) and hand calculations.
    • Prepare interface loads reports and static test plans/reports, stress analysis reports, comparative analysis reports, etc.
    • Manage static testing efforts, including instructing the technician on the setup and verifying its accuracy prior to start of static testing, interfacing with the DER to coordinate static testing and resolve any deviations from the test plan. Assist technician with fabrication of the setup as needed.
    • Acts as primary interface with customer stress engineers to identify and assist in articulation of customer requirements and priorities; discuss and resolve technical/program issues and problems.

    • Identifies, evaluates, establishes, and implements alternative courses of action in response to changing customer focus, requirements, or needs relating to structural analysis.
    • May act as a functional lead over other stress engineers on one or more projects (Level II or III only).

    GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS - Education, Knowledge, and Experience

    Education:

    • A High School Diploma is required.

    • A four-year college degree (Bachelor's degree) is required, with a major in

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Aerospace Engineering

    • Civil Engineering

    • A related field (coursework in Strength of Materials is highly desired, coursework in FEA, Analysis of Composite Materials, and Stress Analysis desired)

    • Master's degree is desired.

    Experience:

    • Level I: 0-5 years of direct experience
    • Level II: 2-10 years of direct experience
    • Level III: 7+ years of direct experience

    Skills:

    • Strong computer knowledge
    • Advanced finite element modeling skills required (Level II and III). FEMAP/NASTRAN is preferred, but PATRAN, Abaqus, Ansys and others may be considered.
    • Ability to prepare and review detailed stress reports to company, FAA and customer standards.
    • Ability to review drawings with other company disciplines and provide structures input.
    • Ability to define structural test requirements for laboratory and full-scale testing.
    • Ability to review test results and correlate with analytical models.
    • Must possess good understanding of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes.
    • Ability to review overall design and provide structures input at PDR & CDR.

    Preferred Skills/Experience:

    • Programming (VBA macros)
    • Catia V5 working knowledge.
    • Previous experience fabricating with wood and steel due to the hands-on nature of physical testing, which the stress engineer defines in test plans.
    • Experience with design for aircraft interiors, specifically, aircraft galleys.

    • Extended or irregular hours may be required.

    • Work is provided to this position on a goal or project basis. Independently determines methods and procedures of how to accomplish routine work. May receive general instructions on new assignments.

    • May oversee work teams as related to stress engineering (Levels II and III).

    PROBLEM SOLVING

    • Develop and provide solutions for a variety of problems based on established precedents and policies.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
