General Description

The Streets and Urban Forestry Division is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Street and Sewer Maintenance Worker. This manual, semi-skilled position involves a variety of shop maintenance duties and vehicle washing tasks at our Streets and Urban Forestry facility. Work is generally performed under the supervision of a foreperson or higher-level employee and is subject to inspection both in-process and upon completion. In this role, you'll contribute to the upkeep of essential city equipment and infrastructure. The successful candidate must maintain an acceptance rate of 50% or better on all snow and ice overtime shifts offered.
The current recruitment is to fill one (1) position based at Streets East at 4602 Sycamore Avenue.
The regular work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO CREATE AN ELIGIBLE LIST FOR OTHER STREET AND SEWER MAINTENANCE WORKER 1 POSITIONS IN THE STREETS DIVISION THAT MAY BECOME AVAILABLE IN THE NEXT THREE (3) MONTHS

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within 90 days of starting employment.
Candidates who do not possess a Class B CDL at the time of application must pass the written portion of the Department of Transportation (DOT) testing process before starting employment. The Streets Division will provide training and instruction on passing the skills portion of the DOT testing process. A condition of continued employment is passage of the skills portion of the test and obtaining the required operators license within 90 days of starting employment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time
Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and must be capable of lifting 100 pounds maximum weight.
Ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
Ability to bend, twist, squat, climb and reach for extended periods of time.
Ability to maintain adequate attendance and acceptance rate of 50% or better on all Snow and Ice OT Shifts offered.

Leave
Vacation is earned upon starting employment and can be used after completion of probation. The general vacation schedule is below.
0-3 years 10 work days of vacation
After 3 years 12-1/2 days
After 7 years 15 days
After 11 years 17-1/2 days
After 15 years 20 days
After 19 years 25 days
After 27 years 27 days
Employees earn 3.5 personal days in addition to vacation.
Employees receive eight official paid holidays (New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day), as well as 3 paid leave days (the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve).
Employees also earn 13 sick days annually that may accrue to a total of 150 days.
