    Description

At Amazon, our vision is to be Earth"s most customer-centric company. Our passion for invention leads us to pioneer and globalize new businesses and customer offerings daily. As we rapidly become the world"s largest consumer of corporate services in many categories, the Corporate Strategic Procurement team is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Manager to join our team. This role is uniquely positioned at the nexus of business units across Amazon, and offers singular vision into a broad spectrum of cross-company initiatives and strategies on a global scale. Using this unique insight, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will build and lead sourcing engagements for both existing and newly emerging categories of spend, as well as negotiate multi-faceted partnership agreements for Amazon"s high-growth businesses worldwide. Strategic Sourcing Managers own complex categories across multiple business units and regions, often in markets with limited competition and pricing transparency, and lead transformational sourcing initiatives with global scope. Strategic Sourcing Managers are expert practitioners in creating competitive environments, and have a strong bias for decision making rooted in data and analytics. They routinely influence C-level vendor relationships by advising senior Amazon leaders across multiple stakeholder groups on the direction of sourcing projects in support of business unit and corporate goals, and they raise the bar for sourcing peers across the global team. Successful candidates must work well in a fast-paced and often ambiguous arena, and will be rewarded by working alongside highly collaborative and entrepreneurial colleagues in an environment that feels much more "startup" than "big company". This role supports the Logistics spend category and we are seeking experienced sourcing professional with experience in this arena who have a passion for serving customers and for driving change and impact on a global scale, then we would love to talk with you.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Owning one or more complex (sub-)categories across multiple business units and/or regions, developing and executing (sub-)category strategies
    • Developing global sourcing strategies to deliver against business objectives for internal clients, and achieving sustainable relationships with suppliers.
    • Managing categories in markets with limited competition and limited pricing transparency, proactively identifying and mitigating supplier, commercial, and ESG risk.
    • Evaluating supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models and bench-marking analysis.
    • Managing the fundamentals of sourcing and supplier engagement activities, including RFx, spend pattern analysis, contract analysis, bid evaluation, negotiations, and supplier consolidation.
    • Leading transformational sourcing projects with complex, global scope, coordinating work across team members and regions.
    • Working with business and finance leaders to identify and drive savings and controllership improvements, focusing on total cost of ownership, and value creation beyond cost savings.
    • Presenting sourcing strategies, recommendations, and decisions to senior leaders up to three levels above you.
    • Contributing inputs to annual and long-range operating plans (OP1, OP2, and three-year forecast).
    • Providing guidance to internal stakeholders on procurement processes and maintaining procurement ethics in accordance with Amazon"s global policies.
    • Preparing and holding business reviews with stakeholders to review vendor performance, future opportunities, and/or challenges.
    • Mentoring and sharing best practices with sourcing peers across the global team.

    A day in the life

Your morning might start with a cross-functional alignment call for an upcoming RFP involving three business units, followed by analyzing bid responses and building a recommendation deck for senior leadership. After lunch, you"re on a negotiation call with a strategic supplier"s C-suite to finalize contract terms, then pivoting to a spend review with Finance to validate savings actuals against targets. You"ll close the day by coaching a business partner through the supplier evaluation framework for an upcoming engagement. No two days look the same - you"ll balance long-range strategic planning with hands-on execution, often managing five or more active sourcing engagements simultaneously across different stages of the lifecycle.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
